Destination Beverley will be launched later this month at an event featuring keynote speeches by Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, and Rick Bailey, Chief Executive of Daniel Thwaites Plc, the company redeveloping the Beverley Arms Hotel.
The event is aimed at ensuring influential organisations and figures in the town and wider area understand what Destination Beverley aims to achieve and how they can contribute to and support its work.
It will feature the first showing of a new video showcasing the very best of Beverley and promoting the town’s attractiveness as a visitor destination.
Sally Iggulden, Chair of Destination Beverley and Chief Executive of Beverley Racecourse, said: “We’re delighted Sir Gary and Rick Bailey are joining us for the launch event, to endorse our role and work and give their external perspective on Beverley’s appeal and further potential.
“Destination Beverley aims to bring together and promote more effectively all the great things Beverley has to offer, as well as enabling the delivery of initiatives that make the experience of visiting Beverley even better.
“Welcome to Yorkshire and Thwaites both have important roles to play in supporting and contributing to our mission.”
Sir Gary said the launch of Destination Beverley built on the momentum achieved by events such as Beverley hosting the start of a stage of the highly-successful Tour de Yorkshire last year. The race followed Sir Gary’s leadership of the bid to bring the Grand Départ of the Tour de France to Yorkshire in 2014.
He said: “I am delighted to support Destination Beverley. The picturesque town is a real gem in East Yorkshire and its cobbled streets, independent shops, cafes and restaurants, stunning minster and historic racecourse make it the perfect visitor destination.
“The town was a fantastic host for last year’s Tour de Yorkshire, so I’m looking forward to working with Destination Beverley to promote it even further.”
Last year Thwaites purchased the Beverley Arms in North Bar Within and subsequently revealed plans for a complete refurbishment of the property ahead of it re-opening.
The Beverley Arms will join Thwaites’ award-winning “Inns of Character” group of high-quality hostelries and Rick Bailey said the company’s £6m redevelopment aimed to make it one of Yorkshire’s best hotels.
He added: “Beverley is a fantastic market town and we are delighted to be a new addition to the community. It’s a really exciting time for us to join, with the launch of Destination Beverley that will help raise the profile and reputation of the area.
“We’ve got a lot of interest already in the Beverley Arms and we know it has been an important part of the town for a very long time. Our Inns of Character are handpicked for their charm and heritage and the Beverley Arms fits that bill perfectly.
“We have some bold plans that will not only restore original features of the building and breathe new life into it but also develop it into one of the best hotels in Yorkshire. We hope our investment and ambition will help support the work of Destination Beverley by providing even more reasons to visit and stay in the area.”
The Destination Beverley launch will take place at an invitation-only event on Thursday, March 23, at East Riding College at Beverley’s Flemingate centre, and will be attended by representatives of key organisations and influential figures in the town and wider region.
Destination Beverley is an independent organisation dedicated to promoting all that is great about Beverley to drive visits, footfall and spend in the town, as well as supporting initiatives that enhance the visitor experience.
